Pelican 1910 Flashlight

Copyrighted 2013As a tactical medic, I like to have lots of lights available to me. Tactically, I prescribed to the Tactical Trinity of Lights; a dedicated weaponlight, a vest/belt kit handheld and a uniform pocket backup light. For medical work, I have both a helmet light and a vest mounted light. As part of my Every Day Carry or EDC, I always have, at least, a light capable of navigating by. For the last year that light has been the Pelican 1910. It is small, unobtrusive and can be carried, even in business attire, without drawing attention. Is it a primary tactical light? NO! It is more of a tertiary tactical light or light duty EDC flashlight.

The Pelican 1910 has been part of my EDC for the past 12 months.
The Pelican 1910 is a compact flashlight producing a 39 Lumen LED beam with approximate 60 minutes of run time powered by a single AAA 1.5V alkaline battery. Remember, LED light wavelengths is not IR compliant, thus limiting this flashlight to tasks and operations when white light discipline is not a requirement. The light’s body is CNC machined from aircraft-grade aluminum alloy for a tighter consistent manufacture.  The flashlight is water resistant with rubber ‘o-rings’ sealing the flashlight body. It is intended for single handed operation with a dual-switch mode for constant-on and momentary-on.

K.I.S.S. OPERATION

  • CONSTANT-ON ---- Press the tail button to turn ON.
  • LIGHT-OFF ---- Press the tail button to turn OFF.
  • MOMENTARY ----Gently depress the tail button for momentary operation.

This is a handy, reliable light that throws a lot of lumens for its diminutive size. With its featherweight and small size, it is an easy light to carry regularly. I have carried it daily for a year and use it constantly. My only complaint about the light: it has no lock out capability. On rare occasion, totally dependent on clothing and activity, I have activated the light in my pant pocket. It has no option for a lanyard which is fine with me. However, the clip has an hollow area that can be used as an expedient lanyard using a fine cord or paracord sheath; if you are the lanyard type.

It is an inexpensive flashlight, combined with a lifetime guarantee, making it an excellent option for EDC. Pelican Products, Inc. guarantees its lights for a lifetime against breakage or defects in workmanship. This guarantee does not cover the lamp or batteries (rechargeable or alkaline).

One Shot Tactical Supply regularly stocks this great little EDC light. It can be purchased online or drop by the store if you are in the area.

EDC Tip: Since you carry a lighter to make fire, simply wrap a handful of elastic bands around the lighter’s body. This has two benefits: you will have elastic bands when you need them and the ‘stickiness ‘of the elastic will help secure the lighter in your pocket.

Take care out there.
